’The Consumer Movement’’ was started decades ago, but still, it has achieved only limited success. The tactics of the Big Players and reduction in the number of volunteers were depressing for the movement.Now I see a new hope for it now! That too, on a global scale! This new hope is “Mouthshut.com”. I came across mouthshut.com only a few days ago. I was doing a quick Internet search on google where I found a link to a product review on Mouthshut.com.
I stopped my previous search and explored mouthshut.com instead! It took me a while to get the complete picture of what this site is all about.
It’s a very large consumer forum on the web, which is RELIABLE, SPECIFIC and FUN!
Well, basically it is a site where you can find users’opinion on a wide range of products. Registration is simple and free. Registered users can write reviews on many products and rate them. They can also read reviews written by other users, rate those reviews, and request opinions on new products. One can also review a product and invite others’ opinions. Besides these basic services, there are many other facilities. Users can make a list of people they trust, distrust, like, dislike, etc.
So what is so special about mouthshut.com?
The following are the pros-
1) Reading The Reviews- the reviews are written by a number of writers, from India as well as from abroad. The writers are from different age groups, and from different areas. So, you get a wide range of opinions. Also, the users are in general very honest and intelligent, so u can trust their opinions. Since, the review-writers are not pressurized by vested interests, their reviews are GENUINE and free from any bias.Products are given ratings, and pros and cons are listed separately for a super-quick view.
2) Writing the Reviews- it’s a great place to express your genuine opinion. This way, you can help people by telling them your experiences with a particular service or product. Writing reviews regularly makes one use one’s head and THINK- the toughest thing in the world! So, your CS (communication skills) and writing abilities are enhanced. You also receive instant feedback from other readers and build up a community here.
3)The Range- the range is very wide. The categories include a wide range of products and services from electronics, personal finance to travel, entertainment and sports. There are also categories of social importance like government, education, and media. What are impressive are the subcategories. These tiny categories make sure that all products are covered. I have searched for some city –specific and “not-so-famous” products and even found very useful reviews. No matter how RARE the product or service may be, u can find it here !!!
4)Request A Review- and what if you don’t find a product here? Well, you can always request others to review it and most probably you’ll get some valuable reviews.
5)Keeping The Consumer Movement going - the consumer movement is still in its early stages. Though the consumer is called The King of the market, the real kingdom is far from reach. So, the consumers need to unite and help each other. That’s what Mouthshut does. It brings consumers together. So, if you want tips and advice, you get it here. If you have used a particular product and found it absolutely useless, here you get opportunity to report it by writing a fact -based review and thus, help others.
6)The Fun- Mouthshut regularly conducts innovative contests. That certainly helps to raise the quality of reviews and everyone is encouraged to write more and write better. Besides, there are a lot of ‘light’ topics like bollywood and TV serials. So, the next time you are suffering from headache due to some bollywood flick, this is the place to vent and warn others!

9) The Community- Well, the people here are really cool. They write very unbiased reviews, which are even better than professional reviews. And where on the earth (or on the internet) do we find so many intellectual, intelligent and cool people trying to do something good and worthwhile together? It feels great to find a place to exchange ideas and thoughts.
So what are the cons?
Well, there aren’t any major flaws here. But, I just wish more categories would be added in future.

No, I recommend visiting mouthshut.com even more often. I surf it even when I am not looking for a particular product. Well, this is The Place to find out what’s in, what’s out, what’s happening, what’s cool and what’s dull. The user base is wide and very quick and alert. So if a product is making waves in the market, its here first – minus the hype, of course! I just checked out review on India Cellular- the latest system by Reliance within hours of its launch!
This website is definitely a winner!!!
